The streamlined versions of the Dietz Monarch and Little Wizard lanterns were introduced in 1936. This style, designed by Ruth Gerth and Joseph Sinel, famous industrial designers, reflected the "Art Deco" designs of many buildings, vehicles and art works of that period. The Art Deco style is brilliantly reflected in the Emerald City in the movie The Wizard of Oz released in 1939. Embury Manufacturing Company also produced the streamlined Air Pilot lantern shortly after Dietz. The style was an expression of modernism from the straight line versions of previous lantern designs.
