I found this Dietz Junior at a barn sale last weekend. Missing the bail but is otherwise complete and is a good working lantern. My first impression is that this is an early example. The outside globe lift, small fuel cap, fount bottom construction, shape of globe wires, un-reinforced air tubes, and ring top seem to support this view. However, I am not very knowledgeable about older lanterns and so I am bringing it to the attention of the well versed here in hopes of gaining some insight as to its age and rarity.Has the following pat. dates: Feb-1-98, Aug-5-90, and Apl-22-90. When I first saw this in the dim light of the barn loft I thought I was looking at an old yellow or gold paint job. It was only later after wiping off some of the barn smutz
that I realized it was a brass lantern. I will need to make a bail so if someone could post a picture of the correct bail I should be able to fabricate something close to the proper shape. Would the bail be brass or steel? Also I need a picture of the lift lever as I think mine might be bent. Thanks for looking and have a great day, every day.
