The wick should not burn up unless there is not enough kerosene traveling up to the flame area leaving a dry wick. This should indicate a starvation of fuel. I would first look for water/moisture in the tank from condensation. If the slightest amount of water gets in the wick from the bottom of the tank, it will not carry fuel to the flame properly allowing the wick to burn down. I'd empty out the tank and blow it out with air. If that does not work, loosen or remove the fuel cap and see if the fuel goes up the wick easier. As the fuel goes up the wick, air has to come into the tank to replace the fuel. If the cap is on tight and the burner is tight, there is no way for air to get back into the tank.
