Berger Bail-Lift hot blast
The patent was in 1897 but I think the bail-lift model was phased-out by 1904, which is why it is not in the early catalog. I believe the early catalog (1889 at classiclantern) is actually 1905 and corresponds with the release of their original cold blast lanterns and the acquisition of the Hibbard-Spencer-Bartlett account. This catalog shows a rendering of the plant they built in 1900. The plant rendering in the 1911 brochure shows the improvements and additional foundry stacks added after their merger with Republic Steel in 1905. The 1911 brochure is also interesting because it offers alternate designs to the usual Berger models and the new offerings are Embury designs that Embury made while in Rochester 1908-1911. It has to be a fishing expedition, looking for jobber interest in the old Embury tooling, which would have been available in 1911 when Embury moved to Warsaw. Berger never made any of the new lanterns in their 1911 brochure, but they did make lanterns after 1912 and probably until 1914-1915. HSB ads from 1915 show Berger products, perhaps old stock; and, I have found no evidence that Embury took over the HSB account before 1916. One of my best finds this year is a No.2 OVB Short Globe made by Berger which I know was not made before 1914.
