It's all clean burning 1-K whether it's from a can at Ace or the jet fuel pump at the airport. Red dye is added for designated heating fuel and citronella for the patio. Charcoal lighter fluid is also kerosene. Older lanterns with their original wicks can retain the stink of the old style kerosene. I'll bet there is lots more info if you search the Q&A at the Lamp Guild, but that has to be a tough search if your key word is kerosene. BB
