I enjoy your ramblings and have learned much from reading them keep them comming. My question is how often does a wick need trimmed to remove the carbon that builds up on the end? I dont burn 24/7 only weekends 4 to 8 hours at a time in the summer evenings. I know carbon build up is normal but the carbon seems to build up quick. I've learned mine need trimming about every 6 weeks. I figger its time trim when they light slowly because of the block of carbon on the wick. A clean wick lights immediatly with a touch of the match (I figgerd that one out LOL). Now I cant get CLEAR kerosene around here I'm using red kerosene, could that have anything to do with the carbon build up on my wicks. The 10 dollar a bottle clear kerosene sold in stores is just too expensive for me to burn in the 18 lanterns I burn on the weekends. Also check how many ounces you get in those store bottles, some are not a gallon anymore. Harry W
