Yes, the threaded burner cap does unscrew but it didn't when I first acquired it. It took many applications of PB Blaster and alot of elbow grease to finally unfreeze the threads. The depression is so uniform that I really don't think it was caused by vandals. This torch is one of those things that makes you go hmmmmm.
