Hey Rick!
I checked a Vesta that i happen to have sitting on my dining table and it has soldered wire burner retainers. This one is an older, second version of the Hi-Top Vesta that has the smooth side fount. I suspect the Lo-Top with the knurled sides on the fount is done the same, but I will let you know if it's different after I look at a few tonight. BB
