Re: G. A. Vandercook Passed Away
I was blessed to be a very close friend of George's (GAV). He was an awesome man! We worked together for years at the State and yes he got me hooked on lanterns. He was not only a friend but my mentor and someone I considered my brother. George fought cancer harder than any person I have ever met in my entire life. There isn't a day that goes by that I don't cry over the loss of loosing him. He loved this website and all of you that he discussed his hobbies with! He put his heart and soul into this website. Something you probably never knew about George...he had no living family. He has a room mate of 30 + years and me. I am not sure how we can keep this site going but we need to, in his honor, I know he wanted that. A few other things about George; he was the smartest man I ever met, he graduated as Valedictorian of his class from Leslie High School in 1967, he graduated with honors from MSU earning a Degree in Criminal Justice. He retired from the State after over 34 years of working there. He loved lanterns, and telephone books! He loved his cats that he had throughout the years but Sally and Zoe held an especially close bond with him. George passed away quietly on an early Sunday morning, July 27, 2008, just as he had lived his life quietly. What a loss we have experienced.
