Now that I have the Kirkman Street Lamp in my possesion I got motivated to get it going.
I finished up the pole and put a couple of layers of clear POR15 on the part that will get burried in the ground. Then I "planted it" and poured post-set concrete around it. The post is not connected to the concrete pad but rather it free floats in case the winter frost heaves do something wierd to it.
Then I put down a 1/2 inch layer of course sand to bed the "castle stones" into. A couple of 1/2 inch steel rods were used as guides to "screed" the sand to a uniform 1/2 inch layer.
Into the sand bed goes the stone.
The concrete base cast a couple months ago got glued together over the base of the pole with urethane adhesive. The exposed seam was filled in with bondo fiberglass gel. The whole thing then got 2 coats of clear POR-15, followed by 2 coats of POR-15 dark green "Hardnose"
The fluted piece that goes on top of the concrete piece is a two piece, clamp on affair made of cast aluminum. I got it from Dickson Supply Company in NJ. I painted it separately before clamping in place.

Now all I have to do is stay away from it for 2-3 days to let the paint set up completely. I guess I will level out the dirt tomoorow and see if I can get some grass started growing.
If the weather co-operates I will install the lamp later this week.
Rick
