I would probably never do it myself, but I can certainly understand the temptation.
Just think ... after all those years, you are the first person to ever put match to wick!
The important thing is that we all enjoy our lanterns in whatever way we see fit.
For some, that's keeping them on a shelf. For others, it's firing them up.
Some like restored, others prefer to keep them original and let them show their age. (Sorry, "patina")
