It was a nice day today. I went to a train show, looked at some railroad lanterns, then came home and worked on my project a bit.
Here is the Kirkman #2 as I recieved it, sitting in a post base... it is a really pretty lantern for sure:
Here is the same lantern with a POR-15 green paint job. I also tricked it out a bit by installing a brass burner in place of the original galvanized one. I hoped the paint job would have come out better, but when it is dark (when else would a lantern be running?) it will look fine. The post is clear POR-15 coated, but it is about to rain. The green top-coat will have to wait a few days.
I made a "standard lantern bracket" and welded it to the lamp post. I figure it will come in handy for something. I have some flower pot rings that I can make a mating male lantern bracket for... it will look nice with some sort of flowery thingy on it I think... a job for the wifey for sure ;-)
Still a ways to go, but the hard part was making all the "parts". If the weather co-operates it should all go together smoothly in the next week or so.
Of course, this is a two part project... the Kirkman Frontier Street Lamp is part 2. That is expected to arrive in the next week or so.
Rick
