At the moment, I am totally burned out playing with concrete. I shifted gears and started working on a railing that will go in the area of the Kirkman #2. There is a moderate slope entering the area, a ramp for entrance, and there will be a 12 inch retaining wall on the high side next to the ramp. A railing is necessary both for safety purposes and also to give the little "nook" a more secluded feeling.
So far, I havn't posted a picture of a lantern, and I'm not sure when the two featured pieces will arrive. I had planned on adding a few other lanterns to help illuminate the area, so while I was roughing out the railing I added a mounting bracket on the inside corner to hold an Embury Luck-E-Lite. (yes, the lamp is lit in the photo). This particular one has what I believe is a Night Watch Red Fresnel globe in it. The globe fits a bit loose, but close enough to work nicely.
The railing as pictured took about 4-5 hours to get it to this state. It needs to have exposed ends of the square tubing filled in, the welds ground smooth and contured, touchup welds where needed after grinding, sanding, and then it will be ready for paint.
I am a mangler of metal, not a welder, so it will take a few more hours and won't be perfect.... hopefully close enough to look good after the sun goes down (when else whould one want to see it anyway ?)
