I just got my hands on this off of ebay. It is a Dietz #39, with the handle that is typical of the NYC versions of the Dietz "Steel Clad".
However, it is not a Steel Clad (stamped steel uprights), but a #39 Vulcan (wire uprights). The top is marked "Vulcan", not Steel Clad. While the handle resembles that of the NYC Steel Clads, it is not quite as wide... maybe 1/16 of an inch narrower steel stock was used.
I have looked on the net and in the books that I have, but have yet to find a reference to this Dietz variation. Has anyone ever seen one of these before? I would sure like to know a bit more about it.
