It could be a display piece for advertising too, the Genesy battery powered lantern I've seen looks just like this except there should be a bulb in the center of the bottom and around it was a wire cage that holds a lens under the bulb. Also the insulated bail had a swivel joint just above the point where the bail attaches to the body. A very interesting piece, definitely worth keeping.
