Posted by J. on 5/11/2007, 11:59 pm, in reply to "Re: My collection so far" I am into old west reenactment and wanted a period lantern to light my camp. I can't remember what brought me to the WT Kirkman website, but I bought the #2 a couple of years ago. Boy was I surprised at its size, for all I knew were the smaller ones that you see today. The lantern is a little too "modern" for the time frame that I want to portray (I'm shooting for the 1870s), but it sure looks cool. Last fall I wanted to get another but found that the Kirkman lanterns were no longer to be had. Then I went to Ebay... I got a Dietz #2 and a few other, more modern Dietz lanterns. I had been bitten by the bug. I just got an Embury #40 and a Dietz #40. Both have been repainted, but that doesn't bother me. Right now I'm getting them because they're neat rather than building any kind of collector's value. Maybe one day I'll get a family picture together. :-)
This Lantern thing is indeed addictive!!
