The idea of the green globe lantern being used to ID a temporary police HQ in NYC makes sense. Even today, NYC police precinct stations are marked by two green lights at the main entrance. I never knew about the flags though. Also, even today, the color for a command post vehicle light in the emergency services in most states is green. The NYC PD is a heavy user of long wooden barricades marked POLICE LINE-DO NOT CROSS.These go back years, and I am sure that these lanterns were hung from them.Today the barricades are blue with white letters, years ago they were gray with black letters. The First Gear co, who makes die cast toy collector trucks, has an old 1940's International NYPD barricade truck, complete with gray barricades, in the NYPD series that they make.Hope this helps out.
