There are a lot of different breeds of dogs that can be trained to find wounded deer. I know a man that has a black lab that is excellent at winding wounded and dead deer. Notice I said wind not track. You probably would be far ahead of the game to get a good hound of some type that has the genetics to track. The inbreed ability of the dog will usually more than compensate for our shortcomings as trainer.
However there are xome good books on the matter one can be found at born-to-track.com. Hope this helps.
