The dogs I watched work in Germany while I was there this past Dec. where all old German blood lines. They did very well at tracking with several successfully over 2 miles. I heard more about tracking ability than confirmation. We will be able to register any of the pups born here in the future in Germany since we will be apart of the breed club. Each club member will be able to register a kennel name with FCI. This will give the pups the correct stamps on the pedigree to allow them to take the tracking test under the JGHV.
I am just leary of UKC. Who is going to come up with the test? who will the judges be? What makes them qualified to judge or even come up with the rules for the test? I will have to look into it but I think UKC is family run. Meaning that it is a family business meaning out to make money. Yes they keep records and all that stuff. But money is what they are after. So if they can find a way to make money on a tracking test then they will. This is not to say they have not provided a nessecary thing in some of the test they provide, field trials and such for many breeds. Becasue everyone know AKC could care less about what a dog was breed to do.
I will just wait to see how it turns out but not expecting much. Long term I do not see it as a benifit. It only encourages people to continue to purchase and import dogs with questionable backgrounds, becasue they know that they will still have a place to "TEST THEM". Many people have turned to trails just like show people have turned to the ring. They never intend to use the dog like it was breed to be used just run it in trials. Some of these dogs turn out to be great trackers others are duds with no hope from the start
If anyone wants to organize a tracking test for a group for ANY breed or mixed breed then UBT can provide the judges just ask them. It takes a little organization and several dogs to make it worth while. It is not a registery just a tracking organization providing a test to see if your dog can do it, nothing more nothing less. And yes the judges are qualified to be judging.
Again thank you for the tip on P.R. it came at a time when I was looking for answers to some of the problems that the BGS faced over here at that time. Hopefully soon many of those problems will be gone.
Good luck with testing your dog when the time comes.
