2 years ago I shot a nice 8 pointer with my bow, looked for it for 8 hours, in the dark, with a friend, but still could not recover the deer. We went back the next day with a blood hound and we found it in 20 minutes. Yes bloodhounds are awesome tracking dogs but will drag you through the woods when leashed and on a trail. They are silent trackers so dont let him go. I just got a beagle/ walker coon hound mix to train to track deer after my son lost one last year. When I started asking questions about deer dogs beagles were always recomended because they just keep going.
