My lab pup has been doing very well until tonight (8 months). He was on about a 25 hour old track and was REALLY struggling. The humidity was high so it should have been ideal conditions but he just didn't seem to be picking the line up. I have never had him do this, usually he doesn't have much of a problem. My question is should I have pulled him off the line once I realized he was having so much trouble? I helped him along and we eventually picked up the hide but he would not have found it without me. I have John's book but he doesn't address what to do in a situation like this. I hate to have him fail but I don't want to have him rely on me too much either. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
