hi derek , your hunting in thick cover . so i would get a dog 35 lbs and up to stay away from snakes. my son's snake is 7 feet and it is always trying to get the cat looking through the grass . and it think it wants my BGS and it weighs 24 lbs .and never forget the javalina . 
if you find a trained dog it would cost alot . but you can train a good dog in 6-9 months . and a good pup can find 1 quick but watch for snake with the pup .
