hi robin , windy days should not be a problem . what kind of dog are you using ? i use a BGS or BHM whatever you would like to call them . what kind of treat are you using . the best is a deer hide or hog . i use the hoof to hide so the put well search for it . but when i go to the woods i use a deer hide sheep hog whatever i have in the freezer . put this at the end of the trail . it can be a tanned hide to just don't let them tear it up . depending on the age of your dog you can age the trail 30 minutes to 48 hours and the breed of dog should be able to do it if it's a cold nose dog if not 12 at best . on a real tracking the cold nose dog can track 72 hour old tracks . and on a windy day sometime a young dog will get off track but this is were he needs you . you have to mark blood spot so you can pick the dog up and put it back on the trail . my dog tracked a pratice trail 26 hours old and it had rained 1/2 in the night . the next day it was 15-20 mph wind and she tracked it 1.75 miles . she knew how to do it but i needed to learn to handle her . real track are more fun for the dog and you will see them do better . hope this will help .
