robin, in England they train their dogs to lay at the base of a tree. Dog will give some indication when animals are present, but they do not bark nor do they break the "stay or down" command.
Always thought this was very interesting, because I stand hunt. My BMH, stays in my truck. If her service are needed I just go back and open the door. Let her run about for a few and then put the lead on her and off to the woods we go.
This way she can take care of her business before we get to the woods and once at the site she can go to work.
