I have a 15-month-old Beagle that I've been training with deer blood since he was 10 weeks old. He has always been very enthusiastic and excited about tracking which has actually become a problem because he wants to race through the woods and will often miss a turn in the track. I have tried putting treats along the track for him with minimal success at slowing him down (I sometimes have to make him stop to eat the treat). Physically holding him back with the leash is exhausting and no fun for either of us. He is a somewhat nervous dog and very sensitive to discipline. How do I get him to slow down and be more careful but keep his enthusiasm and keep it fun? I'd appreciate any ideas. Thanks
