Max I have not heard of a specific person on here using a pointer but if trained right I do not see why not. They deffinetly have the nose for it. The actuall tracking would be a little different since they would air scent more than ground scent and they would work back and forth across the line instead of following right on it. This might lead to you missing some very important clues on the trail. If you do not have John's book I would suggest getting it, there is a chapter on retrivers and pointers as tracking dogs. It is only a few pages but it might help you a little and there is some great material in the rest of the book.
