Posted by Michael Schneider Other than John's and Jolanta's Teckel there are several breeds that might interest you. The group of "Bracken" offers many different possibilities. If you "only" might have 10 or so searches a year even a calm GSP or GW will do an excellent job. I have used GSP for 24+ years on grizzly, black bear, moose and also had fun getting some ducks and geese too. The breeds of Bayerische Gebirgsschweisshunde and Hannoverschen Schweisshund should be in the hands of handlers that can provide "lots" of work for the dogs to keep a true speciallist gene pool for the future. If there pops up a big market /demand for them and uncontroled breeding outside of the clubs takes place, there is a chance to loose them. As other breeds have been lost to the hunting world.

The breed (BMH) is protected by the breed club KBGS as stated by another gentelman here. To get a dog from them is close to impossible if you are German and live in Germany. The biggest criteria is to prove to the club that the dog has a propper handler, home and lots of tracking work. A professional hunter (PH) or Outfitter that could potentually have lots (20 - 200) searches a year would be considered as a candidate for a pup.
