Penny, Go to a local butcher shop and ask for blood -hog is ok and beef blood will work for a 6mo. old pup equally as well. During deer season you can usually find deer processors who will give you blood by the bucket full. Freeze it in small containers ( cottage cheese, 1lb margarine,etc..) but freeze it clots and hair included. When you go to use it thaw and use a hand blender to get the clots and hair out, if you do this before freezing it waters down the blood when you thaw. It will keep forever in the freezer, and during the off season it comes in very handy. Don't forget to give all your hunting friends a little collecting kit at the start of the hunting season too! Use 2 ziplock quart bags ( doubled for leak protection ) and a little scooper cup (like you get pudding or applesauce for kids lunches) and put it right inside the bags so when they gut their deer it will be easy to save it for you!!
