Sure, I stated my yellow lab when she was five, and she does a great job. An older dog may take a little more encouragement than a pup, but it still can work. Since your dog is a hound, I would say it could work quite well. If you have hunted her on game, it could be a challenge to get her to stay on a blood trail, but I would try it. Be creative, and make it really fun for the dog.
