You buy the truck that will do the Job where needed.
In the South in early Oct or 72 F Jan that low to the ground vehicle(dashund) just might run upon "Mr. Rattler" sunning himself and you then have a major repair bill or a dead vehicle. The Bavarian is a little taller and mr rattler is less likely to permenatly damage the motor.
Yes. you can get a dog from the pound and it will track, But will it track as well as a dog that is bred for tracking. As Beto said "NO"
Cost that depend on where you buy. Start with a 8 week old puppy at Approx $750.00 then go from there. All the way up to the chevy 2500 HD Deisel
Right now I would also be concerned about the vehicle "as it is when you buy it"
