Also, in the show, you should consider that, if it was a real M-16 and not a wooden prop, if it was being fired, it would have a blank firing attatchment device embedded in the barrel -- that's how they can fire blanks and make it look real. Without the blank firing attatchment, the rifle would fire once, then it would have to be cocked again, fired once, then cocked again. The in the barrel attatchment would stop up the barrel, preventing water from entering, so it could float for a while.
It probably would not stay up all day. Rather it would bob for a while. Eventually, the
weight of the water entering the barrel would be enough to sink it.
