Oh No???? This is all too sad.
I cant believe this has happened.
Lee Russell seemed like the nicest man.
Doc, DC, and Deb? My thoughts are with you today knowing you all knew Mr Russell on a personal level. I do share in your pain. Its hard to lose someone you know and love, someone close to your heart. We have lost a brother in arms.
My heartfelt sympathy and prayers go out to his poor wife and family. What must they be going thru?
Lee was a man who gave up his time so that people like me (curious, sometimes highly exciteable ppl with very little knowledge about Vietnam, and the war and the Military system) could learn and understand things we never knew before.
No question I posted was ever too dumb or ridiculous. He would take his time and educate me and others, in a way that only someone with his experience could.
Some of my earliest memories of coming on this messageboard were reading the replies Lee gave.
And I have to admit that knowing he was in the Military, I almost sat at my keyboard at attention LOL. I think I may even have been a tad scared of him at first, LOL.
But there was no need to be.
Underneath the uniform, he was a big teddy bear.
I remember being thrilled to have him reply to my question about Under Siege "WHy did Zeke tell his men to remove one of their dogtags and put it in their boot?"
And when I asked him what consequences the Lt would have faced for shooting up the hootch floor of the officers quarters, he supplied me with not one, but several answers.
Im sure he doubted my sanity (and the sanity of all Aussies LOL) on many occasions, from some of the questions I asked. But he always treated me fairly and with due respect and provided the information to put my curious mind at rest.
And for that, I thank him.
I will miss you Lee.
R.I.P my friend.
