Posted by Erika on 11/9/2006, 1:44 am, in reply to "Re: Continuity Error in the Series -- the timeline" George: We know criticism can come from enthusiasm for the show and the subject matter (such as the "goofs" on IMDb), but past a certain point, what can we say. It's bad juju. Just from the name of this site: we're fans, not critics. (Granted, sometimes we scratch our heads over the love stories in Season Two, the transformation to a SOG unit in Season Three, and other TV conventions, but that's another story for another day... ) The timeline issue has been addressed before, and here is an article from the HUM 90 site, with comments from Lee Russell, an advisor to the show: http://www.hum90.com/timeline.htm Fine points on whether the show is historically accurate or internally consistent are very interesting and we do talk about it, but the bottom line is we enjoy this show and we support the people who worked very hard to bring it to us. There is no question or inaccuracy about that. Also, Cjay is hell on trolls. LOL Erika
Wow, Cjay, is that your legendary troll-detection nose in action? I actually enjoyed taking the time to make that character casualty list, too. Is that scary? LOL

: Thanks for the info, cjay. I wont bother
: answering the vague generalizations he made

: You seem to have an awful lot of problems
: with
: Tour of Duty. Why do you watch it and obsess
: about and come on the board and continually
: slam it????
: We all love it and will give you a real beat
: down if you continue to slam our fave show.
: This isn't the first time this
: "troll" has made disparaging
: remarks about TOD!

: Did anyone else catch the fact that these
: guys
: stayed in Vietnam nearly 2 years. The show
: starts in 1967 and concludes in late 1969.
: Too long for the Tours of Duty for Ruiz and
: Purcell.
: Even with the 3 month extension for the
: instant out, it just does not add up.
:
: The final season really burned up the time.
: Single episodes were spanning weeks. What
: were the writers thinking?!
:
: This was alot like the same problem that
: faced the old "Combat" or
: "MASH" series. To make a story
: interesting, it would cover weeks in a
: single episode. Evidently the writers had
: forgotten that only a finite number of those
: weeks historically existed.
: "MASH" especially
: was terrible for this -- they actually
: turned back the clock a number of times --
: 1952 in
: season 2, but 1951 in season 5. Continuity
: error city!
