First of all , cool homework assingment.
Pro:
#1 Mayor (pro tem at the time) Mike Dispenza told me at the save LACR rally that"The 300,000 people that circulate through LACR each year , just spending $10 that puts $3,000,000 in circulation in the Palmdale area alone.Ad to that those monies are turned over a minimun of 5 times ,that equates to 15,000,000 ! " That is what Mike told me to my face.
#2 A drag strip gives people , especially young drivers a SAFE & supervised place to compete rather than racing on the street.SAVING LIVES is ultimately what a Drag Strip does...FACT!
#3 Drag Racing is a family sport.NHRA is the largest auto sanctioning body in the world and "auto racing" in genral is a multi BILLION dollar bussines in the aftermarket industry.
#4 Drag racers are not the old "hoodlums" as portrayed in movies.John Force , Kenny Bernstien,Tony Pedregon these are bussines men/racers whose budgets are in the tens of millions of dollars. Do a google search on Billionair Bruton Smith.
Cons: Drag Strips are noisy.
( Funerals on the other hand from a tragic street race are so quite that they are deafening)
Do not let anyone tell you that a Drag Strip will only bring "pollution" into the area with the traffic.
Fact : At any given time half of the cars competeing at a Drag Race are burning Alcohol, you know the "New Green Fuel" the nation wants to use more of.
Fact : A typical race car only runs a few minutes,with the actual race lasting between 4.5 and 25 seconds.
Fact: "Tow vehicles" sit 95% of the time during a typical 16 hour race day,only starting their engines to tow a race car to and from the raceway surface. 90+% of all cars at the track "sit , engine off" unlike the 200,000 cars on the 405 each day ideling with the a/c on and thats just the 405! so where are the real polluters?
Fact: The community has a choice . There will always be street racing but it can be curbed by having a facilty to race at and then deal with the "outlaws" very harshly. Lions Drag Strip, Irwindale , OCIR, Terminal Island etc. all put a dampner on street racing. Kids nowdays want a legal , safe place to race. Look at Irwindale dragstrip , Thursday the place is packed and the kids have a ball!

Oh by the way I run a Blown front engine Modified Fuel Roadster from the 60's. Been going to the drags 40+ years and racing 30+.
