Hey Stormy
Your absolutely right LACR was family, from the folks who worked there to “All The Racers” that past through the gates all those years. It was especially sad for me having grown up racing there and working for LACR the last 16 years.
You’re also correct when you say NHRA was no help! What I find most amusing is they stated in their rule book several years back that “NHRA is 160 member tracks strong and 85,000 Sportsman Racers”, and they supported neither. Let’s face it unless they can make a buck they don’t care!
This get’s better when the track finely closed Moldy and I started to look for support in opening a “New Drag Strip”, my first thought was to contact Mike Rice
“Division 7 Director” for help in putting together a business plan for the County of
Los Angeles, evidently Mr. Rice was vary busy at the time, so busy he didn’t even have time to respond to my email. Well you know me “Give Up” isn’t part of my make up, so I contacted the IHRA and within a day I Skooter Peaco sent me an email and put me together with Phil Gingerich who handles these projects for the IHRA. They have called, sent me business plan models and been a great help, so when we get this together guess who will be the governing body.
The business plan is almost finished and when it it’s done we will be giving it to
our friend at the County to review before we submit it.
I can also say this that through the years “No One” has publicly supported LACR more than “Stormy Byrd”, as a drag racer and journalists and most of all a friend.
Everyone stay tuned, it’s not over till the fat lady sings and she hasn’t even started
to warm up let.
P. S. I got the copies you mailed, I thought I emailed to thank you, but at my advanced age I can’t be sure. At any rate thanks a lot I really do appreciate it.
