When my dad ran the track in the 70`s,the track was owned by Frank Lane and I would guess he still owns it.This track closing will cause big problems in the valley and be a real loss to myself,I grew up there, literally.I was at the track when I was less than a year old,my dad and Al Keen tested the 3 test strips of asphalt layed before paving the track,In the 70`s my dad was basically in the same position as Bernie is now and has been since 1980,so this will be a sad day if the track closes. On the other hand if the track stays open and they dont dig up anymore dirt after today, there will have to be more done to make this track raceable, unfortunately it has gotten to the point that if the wind blows in the wrong direction or to hard, you cant race safely.Hopefully the people that make these decisions will realize all these things and do what is needed to make it happen, otherwise,it will get real ugly out there(Street racing)in a hurry, not that it already hasent with the recent deaths! : This is the response I got from Councilman
: Hofbauer. I shot everybody on the list about
: 15 or so emails each. Snarlin

: I am in reciept of the form letters. I do
: support maintaining this raceway. In fact,
: my nephews are racers. The city is talking
: with Granite, with the city manager and
: mayor on the point position. We are trying
: to ascertain the value of that deposit under
: the raceway as a first step in this process.
: Also Granite does NOT own the land, just the
: mineral rights, so that is an additional
: issue that must be addressed.
:
: Please pass the word.
