My grandfather, Ernest James Murphey, was a teacher in the Phillipines from 1906 until 1912. He married my grandmother, Callie Stakely, April 4, 1912, in the Phillipines. I have been unable to find out who employeed him in the Phillipines. I also have been unable to find any record of their marriage. Callie was from Union Spring, Alabama. I do not know if Ernest was part of the Thomasites, but would be very interested in any information that you can provide. Ernest then went to Europe where he studied ? language ? in Paris. He later returned to Alabama and taught in Enterprise, AL, and then in Livingston (1917-1948).
