Posted by heeler's wife Sounds like you must practice on a mechanical steer. Do you take it to ropings with you? If not, what do you rope when you warm up at a roping? I am assuming you are a heeler, maybe a header too. Setting traps, scooping. Sounds like you are fishing. How about roping heels when they are together, in the air, on the first, second, or third hop? A successful roper? An instructor? I guess growing up with a rope in your hand isn't good enough and my husband has been roping the wrong way all his life. Oh yeah, I forgot hes left-handed and we all know left-handed ropers should learn to rope right handed, just ask Walt. Then go ask Buttons. I have added a page to our site titled Drawing Board. Please go take a look, I have put on some pictures for you. Link: http://happyheeler.com

Hmm, lets see, thanks for the advise/criticism. Where to start? I guess the horns. I did not know a Corriente Steer has a head "lower than his back." We have only been raising Registered Corriente since 1997. I will have to go out and take a closer look at my cattle. I learned to rope heads just as you said, "horns...mounted on a fence post." Must have been a bad idea.
The first one is Deans first roping with his sister Kathy. Kathy can be found in The Cowgirl Hall of Fame. Or just try typing Kathy Kennedy Rodeo in your search engine.
The second picture is a small article, one of many, about Deans Dad, Sam Kennedy.
The third is the Worlds Championship Junior Team Roping
1976 Dean a few years later. Ask around you may know some ropers that were in that roping. Or maybe you were.
