Tottie is released tomorrow - Monday 7th December '09 - on DVD :
It is the complete 1st series only
ie "Tottie - The Story Of A Doll's House"
( 1st broadcast 1984 I think )-
available from the Dragons' Friendly Society website.
On the site it also mentions Series 2 -
ie "Tottie - A Doll's Wish" ( probably 1st broadcast about 1986 ):
The info there re series 2 is a little unclear so I emailed Loaf at DFS for clarification:
He replied that at the moment they only have a vhs of series 2 ( recorded off-air presumably )
but are trying to locate a better source;
& that it will be released on DVD - & this will be round about Spring 2010.
Incidentally series 1 is from good quality sources & is restored -
I saw a clip of it at at the BFI Southbank, London screening of the new Postgate documentary earlier today - & very fine it looked
( both the Tottie clip & the documentary as a whole )
This 1 hour documentary will be shown soon on BBC4 :
Its called
"Oliver Postgate: A Life in Smallfilms"
& was great stuff; it had family home movie clips, detailed family interviews and much else including -
A longish clip from the Clangers rarity
"Vote For Froglet"!
( so maybe the whole of this short film will finally get released at some point )
Also a very short clip from
The Seal Of Neptune (1960 )
& also - I think - a clip from its sequel
"The Mermaid's Pearls" ( 1962 ) -
Though just possibly both clips might have been from the former alone.
These looked great & in restored condition I would guess.
In the talk afterwards Loaf told the audience that The Seal Of Neptune
would definitely be released on DVD at some point in 2010 (this time of the year I'd guess )-
I also think he probably said The Mermaid's Pearls would also be released at the same time , though I'm not 100% sure if he specified both of them.
That's great news as apart from the rest of Pogle's Wood those are the ones I'd most like to see!
I remember about 5 or 6 years ago on 1 of OP's official sites it said they'd be releasing it at some point, though later that comment disappeared
( maybe they thought it was too far of in time at that point ).
Hopefully the rest of his canon will also be released in coming years ( fingers crossed! )
The documentary was made for BBC4 & will be shown on that channel at some point not long before Xmas this year, the film-makers ( who were present ) said.
Peter Firmin was also there & answered questions & shared memories & anecdotes, & had Bagpuss & a couple of Clangers with him.
A lovely afternoon.
Best wishes,
Tim
