I remember it and I'm surprised it's so little known here. It was based on a French graphic novel, and the TV series was a few years old already by the time it was shown in the UK (made in 1967-8 and shown in 1973-4?). There was a later series in French-speaking countries (where it's called 'Les Chevaliers du Ciel') in 1988-90. There is even a new film, which came out last year! I would love to get hold of the series on DVD but suspect that if it exists at all it'll be in the French-language original.
