Posted by Sgt Phrogman I may have misunderstood the point of this thread. My assumption was that the discussion concerned Marines in civilian attire with boots primarily off-base. While I am currently in a situation where flops are allowed on base in certain situations, that is not the norm in my experience. Off-base there should not be an issue with wearing flops or running shoes for most, and that was the point I was trying to make. When on base Marines should be aware of command guidance with regard to acceptable civilian clothing and follow those guidelines. You are correct Cpl that the acceptable civilian clothing can be somewhat different at different locations in spite of basic regs. That is primarily intended to promote good order among newer and younger Marines. Collared shirts are pretty much a given on any base in my experience. I would still advise strongly against boots with jeans even if allowed on base and would not hesitate to confront junior Marines on the issue with an appeal to their pride. Off-base I would help junior Marines wearing their boots to understand the bigger picture with appropriate guidance combined with moto. Never forget the moto with young Marines if you expect them to retain your guidance and adopt it. Remember any idot can be a hard-ass with stripes as we have all experienced. You seem to have the proper attitude to be a really good NCO Cpl J. The Corps needs good NCOs like you to provide real leadership to their Marines. Thank you for helping me to understand the thread more clearly Cpl. Now if we could just get Marines to stop using their mobile phones while driving on base...
