Posted by LCpl Munk As for Camelback cleaning, if you don't have access to cleaning tablets, dish soap will work, or a TON of rinsing. If you just want to get the plasticy taste out, I like to put Koolaid in my camelback when I first get it. The taste of the koolaid gets in the plastic. Good stuff. You just have to be careful to keep the camelback clean because all that sugar and other crap can get nasty fast if you don't take care of it.

You might have got a 1st generation woodland boonie, and a 2nd generation desert boonie. When they first started giving us boonies, they had huge brims that looked like sun bonnets. Very annoying, very disorganized, very unmarine. Marines used to unstitch their boonies, and trim the visors down so they would look decent and stay out of the way. I don't know how recently it happened, but I see a lot of the new guys (I've been in for 2.5 years now) with shorter brimmed boonies.
