While your commission may have been in the Marine Corps reserve, you were every bit on active duty. Until just recently (within the past year) all Officers who were commissioned received a "reserve commission". After approximately 4 years of commissioned service, all Officers wishing to remain in the Marine Corps were reviewed by an "Augmentation Board" to determine whether they would receive a "regular" commission. The Marine Corps has recently switched to an "All Regular" Officer force, and thus "reserve commissions" are no longer given. The website you saw must be just a little out of date.
