Utility Marine Emblem Question

Maybe one of the Marines who was here before the MARPAT was issued may know. I have seen photos of Marines in the camouflage woodland utilities, and I notice a difference in the pockets. Some have the Marine emblem with the USMC below it. I have seen others with just the emblem with no USMC letters. Is there a reason why these Marines have no letters? I have two links and a picture below. The picture is what I'm used to seeing.
