Posted by techie2 on 8/14/2001, 8:25 am This may sound simple and obvious, but we've had a rash of power cords go bad because of improper handling. While the casing of the cord looks fine, tight wrapping and improper pulling on the cord causes tiny kinks and breaks in the wires inside. As a result, when you plug in a device or computer to charge it or run it on current, the current is not getting thru and you are actually running on--and draining--the battery. Expensive batteries are then replaced, repeatedly, but the batteries are actually fine. Broken AC adapter cords are the culprit. This is an easy problem to prevent.
When unplugging any cords from computers and AAC devices, ALWAYS grasp and pull the plug (not the cord itself). Also, when wrapping the cords for storage, ALWAYS wrap loosely and in a different direction each time.
