I recently heard about a single talking picture frame from Walmart which costs $2.40 each. You can record 10 seconds of speech with remarkably good sound. You can also hot glue a piece of foam to the inside left corner of the frame in order to access the "on" button on the right-hand side.
Thus, when the picture frame is shut, a child can use this device as a simple Big Mac type switch with ten seconds of message. You can make a boardmaker picture for the outside of the frame if you choose to do so. The picture frames are marked $4.94 but are being clearanced for $2.40 and can be found in the jewelry section of Walmart.
