I have enjoyed using software by Humongous Entertainment. Any of the adventures of Putt-Putt, Pajama Sam or Freddie Fish. They are great for creative thinking, problem solving, and memory. Each version has some problem the character has to solve. For example in Putt-Putt Saves the Zoo, Putt-Putt has to find and then rescue all the missing animals before the zoo can open. There are a number of different scenes for this character to explore. Along his travels he has to find different objects that just might help him solve one of the problems he encounters. By clicking on the characters in the games the students can get information from them or clues as to what might help Putt-Putt rescue the animals. Great animation, highly interactive the children love them. The programs allow you to save your game so you can continue from where you left off. I have found these in the Edmark catalogs and at computer stores and department stores. They list ages 3-8 but I find my older students also enjoy them.
