The core of the trade is Heatley/Kovalchuk for Malkin. Brunnstrom and Seabrook are just the guys Burnaby would have cut to make room. So I took them, and they'll probably get cut before the end of the year.
Richards is a Centre would may or may not be protected depending on the team he's on, and is the #2 Centre on his NHL team.
I have the depth this year to make a deal like that with Lupul, Backstrom and Franzen coming up on the wings, and can land an undisputed #1 centre. Now I can keep Lupul, Backstrom and Franzen instead of cutting them, and continue to try and have the best 10 protected players in our league each year.
