Spokane Rednecks
Your Spokane Rednecks have completely changed the face of their offence with a six player trade with Burnaby. A trade that will define both teams for many years to come.
Gone are 2001 23rd and 24th round Redneck draft picks LW Ilya Kovalchuk and team captain RW Dany Heatley, and protected Centre Mike Richards who was an 07/08 waiver draft pick-up. Coming to Spokane to headline their Centre position is Burnaby's 2006 first draft pick Evgeny Malkin, this year's 25th round pick RW IR Rookie Fabien Brunnstrom and 27th round pick D Brent Seabrook.
It is a high price to pay, but with a team full of star players having sub-par seasons, Spokane's strategy is to rely on the quality depth players this year such as Joffrey Lupul, and Johan Franzen, who have carried a lot of the baggage so far this season, and then protect a younger team going forward. GM Tom Clemmer was heard to say something about "the pearl of high value" as he was continuing to take calls regarding the availability of certain players.
To fill the gap in the Redneck roster, Erik Ersberg is being activated. The Rednecks now have a goalie to trade, and may also move another top centre for quality depth players at all positions.
The Kovalchuk/Heatley era comes to an end with one regular season championship, one playoff championship and two finals appearances in seven seasons.
