I know this will undoubtedly cause another riff on the MB - but if it's any consolation - please relay to your teary eyed Sister that it's not her fault, the polar caps are also receding on Mars and gigantic cataclysmal storms - many times the size of earth - are brewing in the unstable atmospheres of Jupiter and Saturn - it's called mutual co-existence in the ever cyclical cosmos - primordial soup just being primordial soup - it's been going on since the dawn of creation and will continue until it's universal conclusion. During the last major climate change in the middle ages, Great Britain was the center of all European wine commerce. Now they can't even grow grapes in that land. Why? Because of climate change.
I resent snake oil salesmen telling your Sister otherwise. If you want a simple explanation for the alleged scientific "consensus" of man made/man-correctable climate change - follow the money. Most of the consenting scientists are affiliated with academia which is constantly vying for trendy grant monies to keep their laboratory doors open. Also why else would Dow Chemical, British Petroleum, Chevron, Shell, Edison et al suddenly be sporting all those cute "green" TV ad campaigns. Because they want to make a ton of money in a panicked society just like the inconvenient untruthful "the debate is over" soothsayer has been doing the last 8 years. And please don't confuse global climate stuff with energy independence and picking up and recycling your garbage - these are two completely different matters. The first is corrupt fluff and the latter is good stewardship of one's surroundings.
Perhaps your Sister needs to refocus her passion on the incredible undersea life like new age luminescent jellyfish that are just now being discovered at the ocean's depths. Amazing mesmerizing stuff.
